And it's been a long time since I updated this thing, I know. Amazingly, not much has happened in the two months since my last real post.

I won NaNoWriMo for the first time ever on November 29 with 50,095 words. I fully intended to write the next 40,000 words of The Eyes during December, but, uh...that didn't happen, somehow. I will get back on that horse. I'm working on a fan fic at the moment, but once I finish I'll kick my ass and write 2,000 words a day and complete the novel. That'll be exciting!

My talk about Idle Spirits dropped off, but I'm still working on it. I'm actually trying to get a graphic novel's worth of pages done, print a book, and then start posting it online. I haven't had any of my comics in book form since 2005, so that's a goal for this year. It would make me feel GREAT and motivate me a lot. (As a random aside, I registered sonjadenise.com on an impulse a while ago. It points to Random Mind, which needs to be updated.)

I spent about a month geeking out over the Android OS and then finally upgraded my cell phone to the HTC Droid Eris (aka HTC Hero, just not butt-ugly), and I've somehow become one of those people who lives on their phone. There are a lot of apps that are useful for language study, and I kept telling myself I'd do a post about that. I will. Eventually.

I also know I haven't been on Google Wave a ton to help everyone learn how to use it, but the peak of the holiday season is over along with my crazy work hours, so I'll go back to logging in every day.

In very good news, Borders changed their mind on a few stores and mine is one of them. So it looks like I won't be out of a job any time soon. (I was hired for the holiday season, but I have a strong feeling they'll be keeping me around afterwards.)

I've been working crazy hours and putting the vast majority of my pay towards my savings for Japan. I haven't deposited my last pay check yet, but it puts me at two thousand and ahead of schedule! Meanwhile, in researching plane tickets, I've found it would actually be cheapest to go to New York and fly out from there. I think I'll explode from joy when I finally buy the tickets.

Ironically, though, I'm putting my Japanese study on maintenance mode, and will be throwing myself into German. It's looking more and more likely that I'll move out of the United States at some point, and I want to keep my options open, so I decided to go with a language widely spoken in Europe. You know, instead of Italian, pretty as it is.

I've been doing research on Germany, and I can't believe I never gave the country or the language much thought, considering I was born there (and "Sonja" is a German spelling). And had I been born five months later, I would have German citizenship right now. (Amusingly, in the Enneagram, I'm a Type 5 personality, and the "cultural personality" of Germany and Japan is also Type 5, according the book I have. Totally scientific, yo.) No country is perfect, but I'm liking what I've read so far. (Fun fact: the top five most circulated newspapers are all Japanese. The sixth is a German tabloid.) Plus, I finally understand what a parliamentary democracy is and wish we had it here.

Since I had registered for an Italian class, I started to get ready for it by downloading some Italian music (Negramaro is really, really good), but now with the change of plans, I swapped classes and went in search of German music. I'm hooked on Juli right now, in particular. Standing at a calendar kiosk all day, I broke down and bought a daily German calendar, and I set my OS language to German. I'm going to shell out $15 a month to get some German-language channels, and I started doing the Pimsleur German lessons today. I'm going all out with this.

And, randomly, I've been on a documentary kick lately. If you want to get educated and freak yourself out, watch "Blue Gold: World Water Wars."

Hooray about the job!! And congrats on winning NaNo! I totally failed that thing again. I have no attention span. xD

Apps, eh? Are they as cool as people make them out to be? :O

Haha..I logged on to Wave and was totally lost. I've got to get on more.

Mmm German. A tasty language. xD
I have an MP3 I think is in German, I'll have to send it to you to see if you like it! ^^
